This elaborately designed White Star Line poster is one of the earliest surviving examples of this art form produced for the company and dating from the mid-1870s. Published for agents in the United States of America, the vessel depicted is either Britannic or Germanic - nearly identical sister-ships designed and constructed by Harland & Wolff to be the fastest passenger liners in the world. For several years, they shared the ‘Blue Ribbon’ speed record for the fastest North Atlantic crossings both westward and eastward.
